Bike Swap Frequently asked Questions:

Bike Buyer:
Q: How do I know what size bike is right for me?
A: Loose guideline: While sitting on seat and foot on pedal, there should be a slight bend in the knee. When reaching forward to handlebars, there should be a slight bend in elbow. Seat post should not be less than 4” or more than 12”.

Q: How do I know if I need a touring bike or a mountain bike?
A: A Touring bike is a road bike overbuilt to handle the weight of a load. A Hybrid is a road bike with flat handlebars and fatter tires for riding mostly on paved road, but can go in woods. Mountain bikes are for mostly riding in woods or on trails.

Q: How do I know if this price is a good one for this type of bike?
A: An older, good bike should cost roughly half of what it would cost new.

Q: The chain is rusty, is that going to be a problem?
A: Yes, it should be replaced; the cost is roughly $20.

Q: The tire is flat, what do I do?
A: Bike pumps are available for use.

Q: Can I take a test drive?
A: Yes, we need an I.D., and your signature on a waiver, and you must wear a helmet.

Q: How should a helmet fit?
A: A helmet should fit snugly with the strap buckled and should not wiggle on your head.

Bike Seller:
Q: When will I get my money?
A: You should get your money about two weeks after the bike swap.

Q: How much money will I get?
A: You will get 75% of the profit and United Way will get 25% but you can donate more if you wish.

Q: My bike needs a minor repair, what should I do?
A: Go to the Bike Repair table that will be set up, and they will help you (Continental Ski & Bike will be discounting their service for the Bike Swap).

Q: What happens if my bike doesn’t sell?
A: You will get a call by 5:30 Sunday and you can pick up the bike on Sunday before 6 or on Monday morning. Bikes not picked up will be donated to youth at Lifehouse. All sales under $10 go directly to United Way – No 75%/25% split.
